1.  GRAPHIC DESIGNER   (TORONTO)
*********************************************************************************

Pink Triangle Press (PTP), Canada’s largest gay and lesbian media organization, has an IMMEDIATE OPENING for a Graphic Designer in our Toronto office. You will produce editorial layouts and client advertisements for our publications — Xtra, Xtra Living and the Ultimate Pride Guide — as well as assist in creating graphics and marketing materials for our web properties, Squirt.org and Xtra.ca — and the upcoming DailyXtra.com.

We’re looking for an intermediate designer with a passion for editorial layout and three to five years of experience working in the magazine or newspaper industry. You understand how to design content to be read because you are an avid reader yourself. As a result you’re aware of emerging trends in editorial and infographic design, and you know how to use page flow, legibility and editorial packaging to enhance the reader experience. You prefer a clean, modern aesthetic and you don’t design pages just to look pretty — you design them to work.

You have an eye for precision and you take the time to make sure the job is done right, even if it means putting in extra hours. You can think independently when necessary, yet you appreciate feedback and enjoy collaborating on projects. You’re able to shift priorities, multitask and complete projects under tight deadlines, Most importantly, you have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a thirst for learning.

You have a post secondary degree or diploma in graphic design and are therefore well versed in the fundamentals of typography, composition and colour theory. On the technical side, you are an InDesign power-user with expertise in Photoshop and Illustrator. Knowledge of Flash, After Effects, HTML and CSS is an asset.

If you have these qualifications and want to work in a unique, fun and progressive environment with enthusiastic, driven idealists like yourself, we would love to hear from you.
