Visitors in drag were welcomed for the first time in BC's legislature on Mar 2, but there was one catch: tiaras, crowns and sashes had to come off.
"We had some trouble getting them into this House, because of some of what I believe to be antiquated rules," said NDP MLA Spencer Herbert. "But they are here — minus tiaras and sashes." Herbert said it was a small step to fuller appreciation of the "BC's great diversity."

Cool
I wonder if this has ever happened in my province. I don't recall it. Definitely antiquated rules. Why is there a special right for religious-opinion-based headwear (and sashes)? Religion is simply an opinion. The visitors were elected by their peers. I think that gives them more right to wear tiaras and sashes than anyone else. Nevertheless, it's a wise and honourable decision by the queens to stay without these items.

One small step for man - one giant HEEL for drag!!
Excellent, great, absolutely fabulous. My bonnet is raised high to all four of you for representing the gay communities of BC. I admire your adhering to 'playing by the rules' for sake of the MLA (Spencer Herbert) who invited you. You all make us proud.
