Squares Across the Border
Squares Across the Border is one of Canada's oldest gay square dance clubs. Our members are of diverse ages, genders, sexualities and abilities. Squares Across the Border give its members an opportunity to meet others in a friendly, supportive, substance-free and child-friendly environment.
Square Dancing is a team effort where everyone works together in a non-competitive environment. Although it is a traditional North American Activity, Square Dancing has come out of the barn! The music is popular music you hear on the radio everyday and our dancers dress in whatever makes them feel comfortable. Straight clubs require skirts and crinolines for women and long sleeve shirts for me. Gay square dance clubs emphasize fun, fellowship and good dancing rather than a dress code.
We will be offering new classes in September in Vancouver and New Westminster. See our web page or the events listing here for more information on our free introductory dances.
Squares Across the Border is a proud member of the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs (IAGSDC). We had the pleasure and privilege of hosting both the 7th annual convention of the IAGSDC® in April 1990, Northstar Promenade, as well as its 18th annual convention in April 2001, Make Magic. We are pleased to announce that the 29th Annual IAGSDC Convention "Dance Up A Storm" will be held here in Vancouver in June 29th to July 2nd, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
