Challenge: Do It For History!
April 3, 2009
Preserve a memory from the past. Document something happening. Do it for the future.
The history of the queer community won’t write itself: it’s up to us to capture it, preserve it and pass it on. It’s a big project and we’re gonna do it together. There are many simple ways that each of us can participate in process of documenting, sharing and creating our history. For the month of April, we’re challenging you to do just one.
Some suggestions:
* Share a memory with someone
* Ask someone to share a memory with you
* Scan a photograph so that you can share it with us
* Take a picture to document something that is significant to you so that it will be remembered
* Go to a local archives or museum and look something up about queer history
* Come up with your own idea
Tell us what you find. Show us what you do. Submit a story to our site telling us what you did for history this month, and you could win a pass to the 2009 Vancouver Queer Film Festival.
To submit a story you must first create an account. When you write your post, tag it with “history challenge”.
If you’d like to post a story but need help doing it, come to one of our workshops where we’ll walk you through the submission process, help you scan photographs or help you record your story.
We’ll be posting your stories all month. Contest deadline is April 30th.
