PTP plans head office move
TORONTO NEWS / Tight space, expired lease, building condition cited

Pink Triangle Press (PTP), the publishers of Xtra, will be moving its Toronto head office from its Church St location to a new home near Yonge and Carlton Sts.

“We need more space,” says PTP executive director Ken Popert. “The constriction on the current space is such that there’s no reasonable prospect that the landlord can do anything to provide us with additional room.”

Popert says the time is right because the lease on PTP’s current home at 491 Church St will be up at the end of July.

“Our landlord at 491 assumed a take-it-or-leave-it approach to negotiations, which is unfortunate, but also the Church St building is not very well built,” he says. “One of the things I won’t miss is running around after every rainstorm looking for leaks in the roof.”

The new location is the entire 16th floor of 2 Carleton St, space occupied previously by the office of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Popert says the move will likely happen sometime in the spring of 2011, prior to Pride.

As well as Xtra.ca, PTP publishes print editions of Xtra and Index business directories in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver. PTP also operates Toronto's fab magazine. Gay hookup services Cruiseline and Squirt, digital specialty channel HARDtv, and international gay travel portal Guidemag.com. PTP works in partnership with digital specialty channel OutTV and on the internationally syndicated travel television show Bump!

Oh my!
Oh my! The old gay greybeards of Church St (ie:- the senior citizens who run Pink Triangle Press) are abandoning the gay village in order to go straight and narrow on Carlton St. Perhaps they were closet straights all along just pretending to be gay for business reasons (smile!). Then again perhaps they just want to be closer to Spa Excess, a popular local bathhouse run by a grumpy old gay man just like themselves (smile some more!). What next! Perhaps Rob Ford will soon tell us that he is really a woman trapped in the body of a man but forgot to mention it to anyone until now (smile a lot!).
