Billed as a budget-conscious Valentine’s alternative, this year’s “No Sweetheart” of a line-up features a mix of music and comedy, including the folk/jazz/pop vocal talents of Arlene Paculan, Larissa Coniuk, dancer Erin Cowan and comedian Liam Doherty.
Theatrical selections include the wry and slightly ribald A Wedding Tale, directed by Kim Sprenger and featuring the talents of Stephen Flett, Stefne Mercedes and Basil Tamkei. It’s joined by the highly entertaining chronicle of two young lovers (Sarah Cody and Spencer Robson) who are truly “stuck” on each other in Letting Go, directed by Joanne Williams.
Brent Barkley’s LOL story of a dejected Cupid with no arrows left to sling features NSR favourites Liam Doherty, Leeman Kessler, Hillary Hunt and Alex Samoras, directed by Blake Thorne. And finally, Patricia Delves directs talented, triple-threat Danielle Capretti and the ever-fabulous Greg Corkum in Dialogues of the Gods.
"You never know what you’ll experience at No Sweetheart Required – I played some new songs at NSR 2009, and later that year they were in a Mirvish musical!” – David Hein, co-creator, My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding.
