Description
Positive Routes to Recovery is a peer-facilitated substance-use support group for gay and HIV-positive gay men. Our meetings are designed as a safe space for gay men who are HIV-infected or affected by HIV, and are looking to make a change in their substance use or looking for support around maintaining their harm-reduction goals. Meetings are facilitated by gay men who are HIV-positive and have lived experience with harm reduction and substance use issues. We follow a harm reduction model, meaning that guys looking to make a change in their substance use may be cutting down, cutting out particular substances, or abstaining from use altogether. This approach ensures that participants choose their own goals around substance use. Our meetings, then, focus on personal empowerment through individual goal setting. Our only requirement of participants is to not use any psychoactive susbstances the day of the meeting. We ask this strictly for the purposes of group safety. Upcoming Winter 2012 Meetings... Submissions go directly online, without being seen by editors. So, it’s important that you follow the laws against defamation. Do that by keeping your comments focussed on issues, and on your ideas and opinions. Do not get personal and do not defame others. If you see defamatory comments made in other people’s postings, report them to our moderator, who will investigate within two business days.

Your comment must directly relate to the subject of the article.

Avoid confusing statements; express your thoughts clearly and succinctly so readers will understand your opinion. Do not post superficial comments, such as a short phrase or just a few words.

Do not post promotions of products, services or events. If you see such postings, report them to our moderator, who will investigate within two business days.

Your comment and name may also be published in an Xtra paper.
