LGBT Newcomer to Canada
LGBT newcomers are very much an invisible group. Lack of access to healthcare, housing and employment; social isolation; racism and homophobia are some key issues they are faced with. Despite the common perception that Canada is a safe haven, an overwhelmingly large percentage of refugee applications are rejected every day. Unsuccessful refugee claimants are deported within a very short time. Such deportations pose a huge threat to their lives as they have already been exposed during the refugee application process, when they have to obtain police reports of harassments and other documentation from their countries of origin.
