The preliminary hearing of Andrew Lefebvre, facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, went ahead as scheduled Nov 5.

The charges stem from a May 26, 2007 alternation at Centretown Pub. During the incident, local drag queen Dixie Landers, real name Michael Marcil, was injured. While a day and a half had been booked for proceedings, everything proceeded swiftly, and the additional scheduled date was not needed.

The court heard from eight witnesses. Although the hearing is public, witness testamony is covered by a pre-trial publication ban. Lefebvre, who faces up to ten years in prison if convicted, has elected to stand trial before a judge and jury. The purpose of the preliminary hearing was largely an exploration and discovery process, to hear from witnesses and face some mild cross-examination — what the Crown Prosecutor termed "examination lite."

Lefebvre himself was present throughout the proceedings, sitting with his family. He seemed largely unconcerned with the testimony, at times nodding with witness testimony, and rolling his eyes at others.

Lefebvre is scheduled to return to court on Dec 5, 2008 for the next stage of proceedings.

The pre-trial of Andrew Lefebvre is set to begin on Wed, Nov 5. Lefebvre is charged with assault causing bodily harm after a May 26, 2007 alternation at Centretown Pub. Michael Marcil, better known as drag queen Dixie Landers, was injured during the incident.

Lefebvre's co-accused, Sheri-Lee Rand, had her charge of assault withdrawn following a separate June 18, 2008 pre-trial. Capital Xtra has not reported on the details of Rand's pre-trial, since witness testimony could jeopardise Lefebvre's case.

Lefebvre's trial had initially been slated to last four days, but has now been rescheduled to last only a day-and-a-half, with the full day on the 5th, followed on the afternoon of the 7th. He will appear at the Ontario courthouse in downtown Ottawa (161 Elgin St).

If convicted, Lefebvre faces up to ten years in prison.

RIDICULOUS
I think this has gone way to far. We the gay community have heard the truth of the events that happend that evening....we keep hearing the same story over an over again an it's NOT in Dixies favour. Yes we know Dixie as a great performer but we also know Dixie as the Bi#$ch/troublemaker..in order for our community to grow stronger we have to step outside of the box an start protecting the people around us the people who accepted us our world into our lives. We are no longer a "minority" we have grown an come so far it's time that we stop worry about our community not accepting us to protect another that is not apart of our world it is shamefull. This man could go to jail for ten years are you going to let that happen? Can you honestly live with yourselves?. Us the gay community our justice system and police force should be ashamed. I've removed myself from Ottawa's gay community because this should not be happening and I do not want to be a part of it...we are human beings we have a pupose to always tell the truth and help our neighbour gay or straight. Think about it. Steve

Enough
Its really fun i've been reading about this crazy mess that happend last year. But the funny think is. That Dixie aka Micheal has no charges against him yes i do understand he got injuryed but he also smashed a beer bottle over someones face. Do we think Sheri didnt get injured from that. And also Dixie Aka Micheal was Micheal that night that is a Man hitting a women is that right? It is the same as everyone that kept saying this was a gay bashing when it wasn't it was an agrument that got out of control and to many people got her and right now only one person is paying the price for that Andrew he defended his girlfriend when he saw a Male hitting her. Please tell me people would you know do the same thing. would you not defend your loved one. Its just really upseting i know how are justice system is it suck it the worse. I want a man walk free after killing my friend. But this is the time when you need them to wake up and smell the coffee. LIke i always say there are three sides to a story and right now only one side is being told here. There are people out there that were there that night and you need to come foward and have this happen right. This is not fair. Sorry if this seems long winded but i get getting when i see BS being said and it just upsets me. That you'd think in 2008 everything that Gay's and Straigh people have put on each other over the year that for once just maybe we can all come together and have true justice happen not one sided justice. Violence
All i have to say is this is a bit much on one person, and a men beating a women does not deserve to have everything handed to him in a golden bowl. Dixie Landers aka Micheal is a big lad and him beating a girl up would make him a coward attacking the weak. Yes the violence does not solve anything but a women beater thats so not on. Sheri needs to be left alone she is really sufering and this one is not a con artist like Miss Dixie Landers who has been having fun in Petawawa on Halloween at one of the local Bars. Hint Hint people look at the facts. I have no problems with the Gay community i find them cool they have such a way of thinking most of them high strong but never the less good people as i said most of them not him especially at that time.

I wasn't there that night so I cannot comment on what did or did not happen. I visited Dixie in the hospital and saw all the tubes going into her body trying to keep her alive. There is no doubt that this monster was not defending his girlfriend, he almost killed another human. He did not pull Mike away or call the cops or anything of the sort. He did not stop until all of Mike's ribs were broke and his jaw and he was laying in a pool of blood unconscience on the ground near death. You cannot do that to another human being and not expect to have to answer for it. I hope this guy gets the full 10 years.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about...all his ribs broken and his jaw give me a break...do you know how long it would take to recover from those injuries?????? He performed at Helsinki two months to the day... yah you could totally tell he was severly injured. Check out youtube for his performance, I believe it's called Dixies Comeback...yah he's in bad shape, that is just nonsence. Your remarks make me laugh lol.

It makes me sick...
Thinking that a person could go to jail for deffending a loved one. Dixie's annoying and obnoxious when drunk (that's every time he goes to the bars). He hasn't changed, or learned a lesson after that incident. It looks like he didn't have enough. He stills goes to the bars, and get drunk, like nothing ever happened. Just because a bunch of "gay activists" portrays him as a poor victim, it doesn't mean he's one.
