Toronto’s Inside Out LGBT Film Festival is set to get underway on May 17. It is a festival of firsts for Andrew Murphy, in his freshman year as director of programming.

Murphy says he is confident with this year's lineup.

“I’m really proud of the festival and the content this year,” Murphy says. “I think the opening-night film was definitely one of the favourites I have seen this year, My Brother the Devil . . . I can’t want to see the crowd’s reaction to it.”

Murphy was among the revellers at the Inside Out launch party. While it was hard to hear all that was going on, the film clips and sexy party-goers seemed to make up for it.

Inside Out and QuAIA
Some QuAIA supporters have marched at Pride with signs that read: I’m queerer than you. I wonder what "queerer than you film" will win the Elle Flanders Award at this year’s Inside Out LGBT film festival? The award honours Elle Flanders of QuAIA. While I realize that Flanders used to be the executive director of Inside Out many years ago, the organization’s support for Flanders and QuAIA is ongoing. Inside Out even co-sponsors QuAIA events. For example, see http://queersagainstapartheid.org/2011/06/15/learning-tactics-and-strategies-with-act-up/ Of course, most (if not all) of the LGBT films at Inside Out would be prohibited from being shown in homophobic, fundamentalist Muslim nations that are the enemies of gay-friendly Israel.
