Rufus Wainwright is back. The singer has returned to the world of popular culture after indulging in some higher-art pursuits,
such as the writing and producing of his opera,
Prima Donna
.
“I did develop this yearning for where I’d come from, which is a freer, younger, sexier existence, which was the world of pop,” Wainwright says in an interview with
Xtra
.
His latest CD,
Out of the Game
, will be released in Canada on April 24. In the interview below, Wainwright talks about pop culture, Helena Bonham Carter and the role his daughter played in the creation of his new CD.

I bumped into Rufus Wainwright on the street in Toronto. I wanted to say hello after seeing his propaganda film about himself in the LGBT Film Festival. I was looking forward to seeing his Prima Donna opera the following week. BUT Rufus himself turned out to be the Prima Donna refusing to talk to a fan --now former fan. After his “I vant to be alone” street performance, I decided not to give him $200 for his opera. According to the bad reviews, I saved $200. Good riddance to a silly arrogant fool.

Who told him he could sing???
In a world of Rod Stewarts and Tom Waits, Rufus still can't sing... he's on his way to being the male Marlene Dietrich - questionable vocal qualities with not one-fifth the style...
