Martha Wainwright is releasing her new album,
Come Home to Mama
, today, Oct 16. The album was years in the making and spans some of the most emotionally charged events in the singer/songwriter’s life, including the death of her mother, Kate McGarrigle, and the birth of her first child.
“It was really intense and it was really difficult times,” Wainwright says. “So, I started writing all these songs based on mortality.”
Wainwright chose Yuka Honda, co-founder of Cibo Matto, to produce the album.
Wainwright has shows on Nov 5 in Montreal, Nov 6 in Quebec and Nov 8 in Toronto.
She then heads to the US and Europe.
In the below video, Lucas Silveira, from the Cliks, talks to Wainwright about her album and the music industry.
