David Testo, a professional soccer player who played with the Montreal Impact, has gone public with the fact that he is gay. This makes him one of the few professional athletes to do so.
The news was reported on major news outlets across North America.
The 30-year-old mid-fielder came out after the recent suicide of gay Ottawa teen Jamie Hubley.Testo hopes his coming out will provide a role model for teens both in an out of sport.
Below is an interview that
Xtra
did with Testo. He talks about his coming out, homophobia on the field and awkwardness in the shower room.

Keep it up!
Every time I read a story of a male professional athlete coming out in another part of the world... I think "Wow. That's great. But what about Canada?" Mr. Testo is local. Good on ya bud!
