Daniel Radcliffe was in Toronto on Jan 26 to attend the Toronto premiere of his new film, The Woman in Black.

Made famous by his role in the Harry Potter films, Radcliffe spoke to Xtra about why he chose his latest part. “It was mainly the story," he says. "[It] was so good and so compelling."

Radcliffe, who plays gay poet Allen Ginsberg in another upcoming film, is a big supporter of The Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.

“It’s very cool,” Radcliffe says of his status as a gay icon. He is not gay but says he grew up around gay people.
