New York Jets quarterback, and the most famous virgin, Mary Tim Tebow, was scheduled to appear at First Baptist Church in Dallas as a "special guest" for two services. The pastor of First Baptist is Dr Robert Jeffress, who is outspokenly anti-gay and known for discriminating against other religions. Tebow has now backed out of his appearance and took to Twitter to announce his decision:

While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ’s unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic First Baptist Church of Dallas in April, due to new information that has been brought to my attention, I have decided to cancel my upcoming appearance. I will continue to use the platform God has blessed me with to bring Faith, Hope and Love to all those needing a brighter day. Thank you for all of your love and support. God Bless!

Jeffress has claimed that homosexuality is a "perversion" and that Islam and Mormonism come from "the pit of hell." Following backlash for his outrageous statements, Jeffress has gone on the defensive, claiming he's just doing the work of the Lord. “It’s my role to speak clearly on the issues on which the Bible speaks clearly," he said. "It’s my role to preach what the Bible says, and that includes the controversial issues. The reason for this firestorm is not because the word of God has changed. It’s because society has changed.”

As for Tebow, he, too, is known for his fervent religious beliefs, although his spirituality seems to come from a more humble and positive place. He prays on one knee before entering the football field, wears Bible verses under his eyes in black paint and thanks "my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" after every win.
