Sally Field received the honour of the Ally for Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign dinner and in her speech spoke movingly about her gay son, Sam Greisman. As if the gays didn't love her enough already (Steel Magnolias, anyone?), but in her speech she is adorable, honest and heart-wrenching. All I have to say is that Sally Field is a good mother. The way she talks about her son and their journey together is exactly as all modern and good mothers should.
“Nature made Sam. It wasn’t a choice. He was always, always Sam — glorious, smart, funny, sweet Sam,” she told the audience. “You all have fought for him as surely as if you were one of his parents. You’ve changed and are changing the lives of little boys and girls who realize somewhere along the way they’re just different from their other brothers and sisters.”
