Seventy-year-old identical twins Louise and Martine Fokkens have more than a century of prostitution experience between them. Louise was "beaten onto the streets" by her husband in her early 20s and was soon joined by her sister. They started doing threesomes to "keep each other company," and so began their Red Light District legacy.
Times are tough for the twins. Not only are they losing money to taxes following Amsterdam's legalization of prostitution in 2000, but Louise had to retire due to her arthritis, forcing Martine to become the sole income earner.
Hopefully their luck is turning around with the release of a documentary about their nefariously amazing lives, Meet the Fokkens, which is set to be followed by a book.
As for why they have stayed in the trade so long, it's simple: "You did the work, you've been a whore. You'll never get rid of that name. They'll always call you names -- so be one!"
In the trailer the sisters are seen shopping for sex toys: "This one vibrates -- it's nice!" And revealing the secrets of their trade: "We hardly ever really fucked unless they paid us well."
And, well, what else can I say except . . . #idols
