The question everyone's asking after watching the 54th annual Grammy Awards is what's more desperate -- showing up in an egg or with the pope as your date? Are we supposed to think this is pop art, she's outrageous, a caricature, a showman? Or can we get real and call it what it is -- a desperate plea for attention that was as irreverent as it was irrelevant. What was the point? If you're going to show up with the pope on your arm, there should be some kind of significance beyond it being part of your religiously themed performance (which has absolutely nothing to do with the song you're performing). If there's no moral behind the blasphemy, it's insulting. Being shocking for the sake of being shocking doesn't make you edgy or interesting. Just transparent.
