What to do this weekend: UNO, FF, Body Break Spit, Hustla

Some fierce parties are happening this weekend! Here's the to-do list:

On Friday, Oct 7, come celebrate one year of the "new" Oasis (1240 Thurlow St) with their anniversary party, Uno. Oasis is continuously the most popular place for the gays or the fags or whatever you wanna call 'em to spend their Fridays. Performances by my girls Peter Breeze, Raye Sunshine and Syren!

DJ Adam Dreaddy has been getting me excited about a relaunch of Fag Fridays for quite some time and proves that good things come to those who wait! FF makes its debut at The Helm (1180 Howe St) Friday, Oct 7. Plan of attack? Why not check out Uno at Oasis and FF at The Helm? They're only a few blocks from each other and there's no cover at either.

If you see me stumbling around the West End in workout clothes, it's because I plan on finishing my Friday giving my Eastside boys some love at Body Break Spit at the Anza (3 West 8th Ave). Dress-up party! Need I say more?

Hustla is back on Saturday, Oct 8 at The Cobalt (917 Main St). The ultimate hip-hop extravaganza, thrown by sweet Peach Cobblah. Resident DJ Jef Leppard with DJ Thatssoraven are in the house. And don't miss a strip-hop performance by burlesque darling Crystal Precious.

Be sure to stock up on condoms and lube, generously donated by HIM (Health Initiative for Men), and have a happy and safe weekend!

Pride goodies: Anjulie at The Helm and Rapture: Dominate two for four!

Both of my heads are spinning with Pride! I'm getting excited for the Pride Ball at The Cobalt tonight but am so disappointed that I won't be able to make it to The Helm (1180 Howe St) to meet the fabulous Anjulie, who is performing! Word on the street is that it's going to be off the hook, and if I could be two people, you bet your stretched-out asshole I'd be there. Check out Anjulie's new single, "Brand New Bitch" (below). She's the Robyn of Canada! Loving it.

Rapture: Dominate is doing a two-for-four ticket sale. Crazy! Rapture is known for throwing the sexiest and wildest Pride circuit parties. If you're saving yourself for Rapture: Victory on Sunday, stop being such a pansy ass -- Pride comes around only once a year! So, be like Christ and rapture twice. Get a group of your friends together to riot on the dancefloor, Canuck-style. Two-for-four tickets are available here

Once upon a time, 30 years ago...

The AIDS epidemic first began 30 years ago and created a worldwide panic. We've progressed a lot since the early '80s but still have a long way to go. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, HIV infection is on the rise in Canada: there has been a 14 percent increase since 2005. In many other parts of the world, the number of infected has steadily decreased. So what are we doing wrong?

Well, we're not getting tested. We're having unprotected sex and engaging in other high-risk behaviour. We're uneducated, ignorant and just plain stupid. If we don't remember and respect our history, we are doomed to repeat it.

There is no excuse for a resurgence of HIV in a country such as Canada, which offers so many different types of support for its people. In many ways, as Canadians, we are taken care of, but that doesn't mean that we should stop taking care of ourselves.

Every eight hours, a Canadian is infected with HIV. There is a cure: knowing your status. So let's make it chic (like only the gays can) and get tested.

Stop by The Helm (1180 Howe) today from 2-8pm for The Hangout, a Sunday tea-dance with local DJs (Adam Dreaddy, Jeffery Michael, Quest, Landon James and Mumbles) and fabulous host Syren DeMille. It's a great way to honour this day and the people we've lost. All proceeds go to the Dr Peter AIDS Foundation.

See you there, dears.
