Don't Quit Your Gay Job!

The second season of OutTV's hilarious hit reality series Don't Quit Your Gay Job kicked off Sept 5, starring Xtra's former social columnist and blogger, the delicious Sean Horlor, and his pal Rob Easton.

On the premiere episode, Sean and Rob tackled the duties of Vancouver's finest, joining the Vancouver Police Department. They were homo popos! I just love a man in uniform. They weren't involved in anything as severe as the riots, which is definitely a good thing, because while the looters were breaking into Sears and London Drugs, I'm sure Sean and Rob's gay instinct would've been to protect Michael Kors and Holt Renfrew.

I think it's totally cool of the VPD to embrace the gay community like this. It says a lot about how tolerant we've grown as a nation, compared to the gay raids of the '70s. A big thank-you to all the men and women who put their lives at risk every day to keep us safe. I just wanna blow you all!

In case you missed it, check out a clip from the Don't Quit Your Gay Job VPD edition, as well as a promo for an upcoming episode where Sean and Rob roll on the ground and get sweaty (sounds like what I'm going to be doing tomorrow night at 8-Bit Spit) with wrestlers Scotty Mac and El Phantasmo!

Don't Quit Your Gay Job airs on OutTV Mondays at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

Review: The Eurowave

It's getting close to summertime here in Vancouver, and if you're anything like me, you've probably already started thinking: cheese and crackers, I can't effin' wait to spend the next four months with no shirt on. (Yess!!!)

Still, the winter flabby-flubs aren't going to melt away in the sun, and if you hate the gym or don't have enough time to work out, it's going to be a long shirts-on summer... if you know what I mean.

No gym? No time? Like lying on your back? If you're looking for alternative fitness solutions, maybe try the Eurowave. A skeptical Up Your Alley (http://www.xtra.ca/blog/vancouver/) was invited to give it a try, and you'll see the results for yourself in this video.

One session made me feel like a 19-year-old lass again, full of spunk and spite, back when I was a girl, not yet a woman.

In the video, you'll meet Tori from Body Beautiful Canada. She's not just a pretty face, boys and girls. She used Eurowave to complement a fitness plan that helped her row across the Atlantic. You know. No big D. Just the Atlantic. Whatever.

Truemor: when the camera wasn't rolling, she was busy bench-pressing me with one arm. My kinda gal!

Give me a write and let me know what you think.

You can check out Body Beautiful Canada here. They don't offer treatment, just sales of the actual machine. If you are looking for treatment, contact a local fitness centre, gym or wellness professional about the Eurowave.

Tuesday Hotness - Olympian Hotness

Now that I'm back in the land of the living, let's get posting about last night. Chrissamighty, I'm a lucky SOB to be in the right place at the right time. A buddy of mine and I were supporting gold medal hopeful Steve Omischl (who qualified in last night's event at Cypress...yes!) at the Can Fund atheletes house in the Shaw Tower. Turns out that Shaw is supporting Canadian athletes in a big, quiet way that isnt making headlines in papers because, according to Can Fund founder and executive director Jane Roos, "Shaw is doing what it knows is right" and isn't actively hounding the press for it.

For those of you who think our athletes are mincing down a golden path or over-indulged with a silver spoon, think again. It was fascinating to get an inside look at a support organization for Olympians and then to talk to said-Olympians about how hard it is to actually make their dreams a reality. Like many artists, they have to figure out how to transform, say, a $12,000 grant into a year's worth of equipment, substenance, etc.

First up on the Tuesday Hotness docket: the saucy and delightful Katie Weatherston, 2006 gold medalist for Women's Hockey at Torino, who <<gasp>> actually had her Olympic and World championship medals with her:

She even let me bite her medals, if you know what I mean:

No really. No innuendo. Those medals are real gold!

And oh cool...next there was Ben Rutledge, who won gold in Men`s Rowing in Beijing:

(my flash is a judas)

My Olympian hotness last night actually started with Olympic Freestyle Skier Veronika Bauer, who competed in the women's aerials here in Vancouver. I tried to steal her chair while she was getting her nails painted. She has the reflexes of an athlete, let me tell you. My chair stealing attempt definitely got a DNF.

Next up on the docket: North Vancouver's Anna Rice, Badminton Player. She competed in Athens and Beijing and has medaled at several other events:

Then of course there was the auctioning event, where we had a chance to bid on an Olympian orgy:

Fourth from right is Kyle Parrott, who's actually quite hot, and third from right is Alpine Skier Ryan Semple. If only I had won the auction. If only...

My own Olympic tribute

Something changed in the city this weekend. You feeling the Olympic energy? Can't walk down a street right now without hearing people talking in a ton of different languages. There are hot (HOT) male and female athletes everywhere. Something very special is taking place in Vancouver and I'm glad that I'm going to be hear for the beginning and end of it.

Now it only seemed right that to kick off the second season of Don't Quit Your Gay Job, that we make a nod to what's going to be taking place in Vancouver over the next few weeks:

I love Canada and I love being a Canadian, which is why my co-host Rob Easton and I spent the last few weeks learning how to curl and how to play hockey. Doesn't get anymore Canadian than that right?

Our winter sport-themed episodes will air Feb 15 and Feb 22 on OUTtv at 7:30pm ET/PT. I'd like to thank the Vancouver-based The Pacific Rim Curling League and The Cutting Edges for helping us make these shows. The LGBT community in Vancouver is amazing. If you are interested in either sport, visit their websites.

Here's another fun clip from our first season:
