The best of Blitz 2012

I had the opportunity to attend some great events and interview tons of fabulous people this year! Some RuPaul's Drag Race bitches, Shangela and Sharon Needles; Canadian musician Rufus Wainwright; and one of my idols, Boy George. Here are some of the highlights of Blitz & Shitz 2012:

One of my favourite nights of the year was seeing Madonna live during her MDNA tour at Rogers Arena. When it all comes down to it, I'm a big ol' Madonna queen. You would be, too, if you tried to kill yourself and found Madonna. Check out my review of the show here!

Meeting Amanda Lepore was a thrill. There is something undeniably alluring about her. Her skin is so white and smooth, when she stepped into the room, I couldn't help but think how she is otherworldly. And I want to be a part of that world!

The best of 2012 came to me at the very end of the year, when I got the opportunity to interview Boy George. He's the original pretty boy and a defining figure in both pop culture and gay history. When I called him in London for our interview with his DJ partner, Marc Vedo, he was gracious and articulate. I definitely found the new age of Boy George inspirational.

I also got to interview him on film backstage at Celebrities before he took the DJ decks. It was, without a doubt, my most thrilling moment of the year. It's not every day you get to meet a legend. The video will be up on xtra.ca soon!

Happy new year!

Icon, with Manila Luzon ticket giveaway!

Manila Luzon was set to perform at the very first Icon at Post Modern back in October, but after the death of her lover, and fellow RuPaul's Drag Race star, Sahara Davenport, she was forced to cancel. Luckily, things have come full circle, and for the last Icon, on Friday, Nov 23, Manila is the featured guest.

Tickets are $15, but if you'd like to get on the guest list, email blitzandshitz@xtra.ca the answer to this question:

When Manila cancelled, which two Drag Race stars came to perform at Icon in her place?

I'll be emailing the winner tomorrow afternoon. Good luck, and enjoy the party!

Jinkx Monsoon for the win on Season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race!

Jinkx Monsoon, a self-proclaimed "Jewish narcoleptic queen from Seattle," will be reppin' the Pacific Northwest on Season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race. As if the hilarity she spews in her "meet the queens" video for Logo isn't enough to win my heart, check out her video for "Jinkxalicious." She's funny, outrageous and a little perverted. The perfect mix! Her inspiration for joining the show is Sharon Needles, who gave her the confidence to unleash her full character, and she won't stop till she's Jinksing Broadway.

Get it, girl!

Check out a complete list of the divas who will be competing on the upcoming season.

Make 'em eat it and gag

Check out the single "The Chop" from RuPaul's Drag Race stars Manila Luzon and Latrice Royale. The song is available on iTunes, where it's described as an empowering duet following their recent "chop" from All Stars. The divas recorded the track separately, with Luzon spending time in the studio in New York City and Royale delivering her vocals in South Beach. The result is the first musical collaboration in Drag Race history!

Team Latrila, Latrice Royale and Manila Luzon, just got The Chop on RuPaul's All Stars Drag Race in what is being called the biggest upset of the season. The mismatched pair quickly proved they were the team to beat this season winning the first ever challenge in All Stars herstory. Although they have been sent packing much too early, these two are not letting that discourage them as they release their inspirational new duet, "The Chop".
