What to do this weekend: UNO, FF, Body Break Spit, Hustla

Some fierce parties are happening this weekend! Here's the to-do list:

On Friday, Oct 7, come celebrate one year of the "new" Oasis (1240 Thurlow St) with their anniversary party, Uno. Oasis is continuously the most popular place for the gays or the fags or whatever you wanna call 'em to spend their Fridays. Performances by my girls Peter Breeze, Raye Sunshine and Syren!

DJ Adam Dreaddy has been getting me excited about a relaunch of Fag Fridays for quite some time and proves that good things come to those who wait! FF makes its debut at The Helm (1180 Howe St) Friday, Oct 7. Plan of attack? Why not check out Uno at Oasis and FF at The Helm? They're only a few blocks from each other and there's no cover at either.

If you see me stumbling around the West End in workout clothes, it's because I plan on finishing my Friday giving my Eastside boys some love at Body Break Spit at the Anza (3 West 8th Ave). Dress-up party! Need I say more?

Hustla is back on Saturday, Oct 8 at The Cobalt (917 Main St). The ultimate hip-hop extravaganza, thrown by sweet Peach Cobblah. Resident DJ Jef Leppard with DJ Thatssoraven are in the house. And don't miss a strip-hop performance by burlesque darling Crystal Precious.

Be sure to stock up on condoms and lube, generously donated by HIM (Health Initiative for Men), and have a happy and safe weekend!

Join Isolde and friends (Joan-E, Jaylene Tyme, Mona Regina and Peach Cobblah) as they share stories, give the kind of performances that made them stars, and talk us through Vancouver's glamorous drag past. Don't miss!

Sept 23 and 24, 8pm, $10. Box office: 604-684-8028 or online.

What to wear for the Kick Off Cruise

Start the summer with CruiseyT's Kick Off Cruise! The boat party starts at 3:30pm with DJs Drew and Zach Shore and drag performances from Joan-E and Isolde N Barron. Advanced tickets are $30 and available here.

What to wear? I have no idea. I'm probably going to end up getting something from the Sally Ann because that's my reality. But a boy can dream, and in my dreams I see...

A new gay has come

If you read my debut column in the last issue of Xtra, you’re probably checking Blitz & Shitz today for a “parting word from DJ Adam Dreaddy” as we say goodbye to Fag Fridays at Oasis Ultra Lounge.

But it appears that the peeps over at Oasis have overcome the marijuana-induced lethargy that plagues most Vancouverites, because there will be no RIP for Fag Fridays - just a reincarnation!

Starting tonight, Oasis presents Gay Fridays. DJs Zach Shore and Nick Bertossi will keep the gays dancing all night, and there is sure to be no shortage of laughs and entertainment from fabulous hosts Raye Sunshine and Joan-E.

See you there!

I make an UGLY lady

Although I've been feeling SUPER mainstream, I’m still keeping it real from Montreal this week. Holla!

We’re 50% through the competition, and despite wondering if Montreal was going to be the answer to the big “What am I doing with my life” question, I’m pretty happy to say that I miss Vancouver and can’t wait to get back to all the people that make my life what it is.

Today we had a talent challenge — who’s the bigger drag queen? My second time in face definitely gave me mad respect for all the performers I know in Van: Joan-E, Robyn Graves, Jaylene, Raye Sunshine, Isolde N Barron, Miss Cotton, Symone, Carlotta, Connie Smudge, Syren…

I also really miss boyfriend Steve. Sad face. Wilted rose.

Here’s a teaser for Day 4 of the competition. Last night, we competed as a team and performed the Spice Girls' “Stop”… check http://www.queeroftheyearcontest.com later today for a full video.

Kisses from Montreal. Thanks for your support and keep voting for Team Vancouver!!!

xx S
