You must be an angel: Darren Hayes covers Madonna

Darren Hayes, one half of the former duo Savage Garden, is set to release his fourth studio album, Talk Talk Talk. A bonus track on the record is a cover of Madonna's classic song "Angel" from her 1984 album Like a Virgin. It sounds familiar yet completely different, and I fucking love it! Check it out (below).

Once upon a time, 42 years ago...

On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn in NYC. Raids on gay bars were not uncommon, but this one was unique because, for the first time, the gays fought back. It started with a drag queen throwing one of her shoes at a cop and led to the Stonewall riots. The riots lasted through that night and the following two days. Many consider this the beginning of the gay rights movement. Within months, things were starting to progress for the gay community, with the founding of several gay organizations and newspapers. One year after the riots, the first gay pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

We've come a long way since then. A few days ago, in a truly profound victory, New York State legalized same-sex marriage. New York is known around the globe as being trendsetting, and I'm certain that in the next few years, the 44 US states that still deny gay rights will rise above their ignorance and bigotry in rapid succession.

We are so lucky to live in Canada, where gay marriage has been legal since 2005. Of course, there is still a long way to go when it comes to reaching a state of total acceptance. Looking back at the 42 years of progress that we've made, I have every confidence that, as long as we stay true to our history and ourselves, our love will conquer the hate.

Scientists claim women have hormone-induced gaydar

The University of Toronto has completed an experiment proving that women become better at identifying homosexuality while they're ovulating just by looking at a man. The research proves that when a woman is ovulating, she has a heightened desire to find a mate, which increases her accuracy when deciphering a man's sexual orientation.

In the study, several women were asked to look over pictures of 80 different men, half of them straight, half of them gay. The men all posed identically, and the women were told to simply use their intuition. The results, which were published in Psychological Science, revealed that the closer a woman was to ovulation, the better she was at predicting a man's sexual orientation.

I don't know... if these women have such great gaydar, why am I sleeping with their husbands?

New York State reaches a higher level of enlightenment

I must give MAJOR congratulations to my old stomping ground of New York! The state senate has finally legalized same-sex marriage, making New York the sixth state in the US to grant equal rights. Amidst the anniversary of Stonewall and NYC Pride, this is truly a momentous triumph. You have no idea how badly I wish that I were there last night; I'm sure it was out of control!

What a victory for the Empire State. Six down and 44 to go. Great change takes time, but we're getting there!
