Say what you will about YouTube -- that it's enabled some of the most vapid people in the world, that the comments section is a breeding ground for hate speech -- but thanks to the ease with which people can post content online, video journalism is certainly easier and faster.
Case in point: three police officers in London, England, were accused of exercising excessive force when trying to arrest a trans woman for being ill in the street. Yes, because apparently getting food poisoning is illegal in London! Or perhaps they're just transphobic assholes who used a flimsy excuse to publicly mock and allegedly brutalize someone who isn't like them. An eyewitness reports,
The victim then had her wig ripped from her head, her handbag and purse literally emptied out on the road, so her personal belongings were damaged and scattered around her.
Meanwhile, police officers mocked her for her dress and for having feminine items in her handbag while shouting at her, "You're not normal! We'll let you get you up in a few minutes but you need to act like a normal human being."
The humiliation continued, as the crowd gathered. She was completely restrained, cuffed and immobilised by the police, but they still decided to throw her to the ground; where her head hit the concrete first, making the worst sound, causing cuts and bleeding.
This gets worse... Even though her hands were cuffed behind her back and her face was pressed down on the dirty ground, one officer pulled her arms upwards to cause her immense pain, whilst the other two used their steel-toed boots to stand, with all their weight, on her shoulders and legs. The video is included below, if you want to see what went down for yourself, but unfortunately it's rather short and doesn't shed much light on what happened. But if the story is true, then something severely fucked up is boiling under the surface in London.
