Miss Conception returns to Toronto

Spring is here, and you know what that means: it's the start of allergy season, blockbuster season and the return of Toronto's very own Miss Conception.

After a four-month stint in Puerto Vallarta, the newly svelte Miss C returned to her weekly 6pm shows at Woody's today, and the response from the community was . . . overwhelming, to say the least. All of the stage-side tables were gone by 3:20 (a good two hours and 40 minutes before she was slated to go on). By the time she got onstage, the only spaces left were standing-room only and people were sitting in the walkway.

Miss C brought out updated versions of classic material and fan favourites -- her Adele now performs the theme from Skyfall! -- as well as some new stuff, including one hell of a costume change and plenty of feathers and back-up boys.

For more of Miss Conception, check out her weekly 6pm show at Woody's, and support her with tips and shots of butter ripple schnapps.

USD tries to pray the drag away

The University of San Diego recently put together its annual Supreme Drag Superstar event, wherein renowned drag queens come together to give the student body a little time to relax and unwind in light of upcoming exams. It's just a light and fluffy show featuring men in dresses and wigs, but of course, a small but vocal minority of religious students took this as a "slap in the face" (their words, not mine) and decided to try to pray the show away.

Some Catholic students strongly believe that this type of show shouldn't be held on campus.

“There are a lot of Catholic students on campus who specifically came to this school with the intention of attending a Catholic university, so to a big extent, it feels like a betrayal almost,” said Urbanek.

Still, some drag show supporters say the controversy needs to be put in perspective.

“I think it's unfortunate that someone has to tell them they can't wear what they're wearing because it represents something that seems to be a lot bigger, but in reality it's just an entertainment show,” said attendee "Sister Amanda." [SOURCE]

First off, the host of the show was Manila Luzon, which . . . Seriously, Manila Luzon is performing at your school. That is nothing short of a gift from God. How very dare you.

Second -- Well, I'm not sure how many times this can be repeated, but IT'S A DRAG SHOW. Shit's not that serious. Even if you prayed to have the show cancelled, I'm pretty sure God has more important things on his/her plate. It's not like God's going to look up from his/her desk and go, "Wait, shit, a drag show? Well fuck, I was going to help Africa today, but you guys have real problems."

This week needs to RuPaulogize

Fuck this week. Fuck this week right in the soul.

Jesus lap-dancing Christ, did this week ever suck. The Boston Marathon bombing, the ensuing manhunt, the fucked-up weather . . . Nope. No more of this. The weekend's here, so let's go back to our respective corners, fix ourselves up and come back next week when everything is slightly less shitty.

But for the time being, here's some much needed levity in the form of the latest video from Willam (of RuPaul's Drag Race) for her song "RuPaulogize." It has drag queens, guys in short-shorts getting to third base on a pinball machine, and Sharon Needles doing her best RuPaul impression. It's fun, it's weird, and after this shithole of a week, it's kinda necessary.

Jinkx Monsoon dreamed a dream

So.

I hope you guys just caught the latest episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, because FUCK was that funny. Thank God they threw in more comedy challenges this year because it's making for some fantastic bits. I'll go into it more tomorrow, but tonight we have to talk about something.

Jinkx Monsoon is kinda killing it, isn't she? She's been consistently the best all season, and she doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. And now she's showing off her impressive vocal range, as she does in this video where she sings "I Dreamed a Dream" in her Little Edie character from the Snatch Game. How the fuck can one person be so talented? It's not even fair. Bitch is staunch as shit.

Sharon Needles releases 'This Club Is a Haunted House'

How weird is it that, a year ago, Sharon Needles was an underground indie darling, roughing it with her fellow freaks and geeks in Pittsburgh, and now she's an international gay icon with a music career and her own TV show? That's what happens when RuPaul gives you her blessing: you slowly but surely take over the world.

Since tonight is the premiere of the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race (featuring Needles' ladyboyfriend, Alaska Thunderfuck), Sharon decided to release the music video for her new single, "This Club Is a Haunted House," off her upcoming album, PG-13. Check out the video below, and check back tomorrow for another run of Drag Race RuCaps.
