Soirée tout a fait Moirée

Studio 303 is by far my favourite interdisciplinary arts centre. Mostly because it's backed by a core of dedicated queer-positive women. They are having their annual fundraiser if you can afford to support them.

The 2008 fundraising efforts yielded a new dance floor and revamped dressing rooms, as well as three creative residencies. This Friday and Saturday, check out their spunky Soirée Moirée. It's "a tongue in cheek evening tribute to the legendary ballet Relâche, by Picabia, Satie and Rolf de Maré’s Swedish Ballet. Audience should to be chic, if they care to," says co-creator Marc Boucher.

Here's the official description: Guests are greeted for an evening of performances, projections, song, dance, play and other objects. Relational Surrealism. 1922 multiplied by Antiquity divided by today. A tongue in cheek tribute to the legendary ballet Relâche, by Picabia, Satie and Rolf de Maré’s Sweedish Ballet. The moirée effects is applied to images, sounds, symbols and myths. Top hat and Grail. Roaring beauties. Maximum 60 guests per Soirée. 6 stages. About 75 minutes. Come in your smoking jacket. No smoking. Some latecomers may be admitted. Garçonnes welcome.

Readers: Prize Giveaway for "Instructions"

"INSTRUCTIONS"

A provocative evening of gender-bending and identity-questioning performance. Fanadeep, our French coverboy duo, use 2 blenders, a lazy-boy and mythological instructions to explore their shadowy selves. British art star Oreet Ashery, via video, performs a duet called Semitic Score with local queer artist 2Fik; both as their Orthodox Jewish and Muslim alter egos. Emma Howes sends us playful commands from Berlin. Kris Nelson is a producer and curator (and first lady to Montag of the Mec Plus Ultra crowd). Instructions is his first curatorial gesture in Montreal. Duree: 45 minutes / bilingue $15 — $12 advance. The first two people to email Melissa at communications@studio303.ca and mention KOX & KUNTZ win pairs of tickets to see INSTRUCTIONS this Saturday, Feb 6, at Studio 303 at either 7 pm or 9 pm.
