The ways in which... etc

My alma mater's former chairperson, Viviane Namaste, will receive the Grand Prix of the CQGL (Le Conseil québécois des gais et lesbiennes) 2010. She is being recognized for her research work within the realms of sexual health of transgendered, transexual and bisexual people, her research on HIV/AIDS in regards to men and women who have sex with men and women, as well as her activism within the trans human rights spectrum. She taught me, and many of my friends, a lot about theory and research methods. PLUS, she is the only teacher in Concordia history that has ever given hugs to her graduating students at convocation.

Vive la Viviane.

Check hir out in this video. Lady's got brains yo.

Back to school! More teachers, more drrrty looks, more, more, more!

Celebrate mit us as the city heads feet first into the warm bathwater of studiously avoiding adulthood for yet another school year.

The 2110 Centre takes care of your activist needs and trains you to incorporate gender into yr politics. Though if you read this blog, you probably are drawn to it in part because you like gender and shit. This Wednesday.

In the heart of queers

A friend and local activist/academic, Alexandre Baril, was nominated for the CQGL (Conseil québécois des gais et lesbiennes) prize Coupe de Coeur (basically strikes a heart chord in the public).

Some fun facks about Monsieur Baril:

  1. I think it bears mentionning that I introduced him to the Sound of Arrows' remix of Lady Gaga's Alejandro.
  2. He has a Janis Joplin record (Pearl) displayed in his east-end apartment.
  3. He works out like a madman. And it shows.
  4. He's a gentleman.
  5. He led the first demo for the rights of trans people in Quebec.

Vote for him here!

You can also check him out on the innernets:

Montreal Roller Derby Bootcamp off to a bang! and a wham!

Jessy's an internet friend of mine, someone I've known since we started following each other on Twitter last year, (follow me @linamariepony). Both avid Derby fans (and homos!) I got some skates, but Jessy is the one who made it to the Bootcamp in the end. I had a time constraint but I am going to learn how to skate first, also. Anyway, Jessy's got a derby n00b blog! If you've ever wanted to get the inside on what REALLY goes on at Bootcamp, check her blog. It's painfully detailed, but I like that.
