Notes on doing it yrself

I started a knitting club. Last night, a bunch of us ladies got togedder to stitch n bitch. (Boys were allowed but none came.) It was soothing. Those who know me know that I'm not an organizer of things. And I think maybe I hate knitting. But guys, I did it... I decided to rise above that idea that my club might not work. I wanted a knitting club with 20-30 yr olds with similiar interests, so I FUCKING DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT. So anyway. Reminds me of someone else who fucking went for it. I like her. She's hosted the Meow Mixes in the past and is well known in the lesbian/queer Montreal scene. She also made an igloo out of speakers.

Let's get platonic murried

Till death do us part, or a nasty divorce. But mostly, let's just promise to hold each other on the barcalounger, for better or for worcestershire. In sick outfits and in hellcats re-runs. You may kiss my bride.

Coral Short (@coralshort) united many buddies in this ceremony back in August. Pics just came out and they are beautiful! Thanks Diana Le Nézet!

ROGUEST of UNICORNS

Ste-Emilie Skillshare is looking for submissions for its newest edition of the The Rogue Unicorns Zine! Deadline is Sept 15 (6 days away pervs!) and can be about anything from  interviews, DIY tips, angsty poetry, essays, callouts, report backs, rants, drawings, paintings, or other.

We love them. So you should contribute. They are a very welcoming, non-judgmental, artsy bunch! See their callout below...

Dear membership,

There are a few rumours that have been circulating about The Rogue Unicorns Zine (of the Ste. Emilie Skillshare).  We feel it necessary to address these rumours directly with our current and potential readership.  We know that some of you have been confused, upset, stunned, shocked – panicked even – by some of the things that you have heard, so we would like to be clear about the future of The Rogue Unicorns Zine, our past, our present and our future.

1. ROGUE UNICORNS is Ste-Émilie’s new zine about anything and everything having to do with our mandate of anti-oppression/ anti-racism/ queer liberation/ self-respresentation/ self-expression/ DIY/ we are all artists/ revolution – THIS IS TRUE.
2. We did have an exclusive full front AND BACK nude photo of Michelle Obama planned for the coverpage of the first issue, however do to legal complications, the image will be delegated to the content section of the zine.

Missiles, boobs, super heros and queer family love

Local queer actors and cultural producers (ie Artistes) came together to film a very special, very b-movie sci-fi space thriller premiering at Ste-Em's NEXT weekend. This week I spoke with producers Coral Short and Morgan about the process... READ ABOUT THE EVENT HERE.

The movie is about...
After the nuclear holocaust earth explodes... dna and plants gets sent in out of space. but the instructions are in english so the scientists dont understand. machines have taken over. and the machines represent work culture. A machine is a rebel and he feasts and has sex and then some other shit happens. And then surprise ending ensues!!!

Queer angle...
Everybodys is queer, some 9 year boys who like each other are questioning or gay or something. "there is a DIY asthetic and camp style to the film."

"We shot in on a queer person's land with a lake and many acres" in the Laurentians. some parts were filmed in the biodome, says Coral.

THIS IS DURING OUR AWESOME SKYPE-TERVIEW ON TUESDAY NIGHT! WE'RE AWESOME.

ALSO:
Coral: my fav movie maker is Karaoke moggots and men. we both like Annie Sprinkle. The one with the moustache.

Morgan: Audio Architect was behind the soundtrack.

fav music lately: sexy sushi! Justin Bieber! Ratatat! Miike Snow!

fav movie that the movie was sorta based on: Blade Runner

anything else:
Coral: the costumes are very diy and awesome because queers have good taste. it's very sexy. It's kinda like softcore porn.

Morgan: In the movie, MORGAN SEA is a super hero and also created some comic bubbles in the film.

Ste-Emilie SkillShare party is NEXT Saturday. See you there Squares!
