PRIDE is a pyramid scheme

The best is when political slogans are crocheted for months into giant granny squares. This happened over the weekend in Toronto while I was happily sipping an iced latte at Café Olimpico.

Perverted city: call for proposals

Pervers/Cité is a collaboratively organized summer festival, taking place Aug 4 to 14, that aims to make links across social justice groups, queer communities and radical visions of Pride. In a climate of corporatized gay agendas and whitewashed homogeneity amongst queers, Pervers/Cité strives to provide a critical and accessible schedule of activities, designed to bring back the radical underpinnings of the Pride movement. Past events have included panel discussions, workshops, performance nights, film nights, direct-action interventions, picnics, community dinners and games. If you want to organize something, send a short description of your event, along with any logistics that you would need help organizing, to perverscite@gmail.com. The deadline is Wednesday, June 29 at noon.

Coming soon: more sexually explicit content in Montreal

The Fetish Weekend is what I mean, of course!

The creator of the fest, Eric Paradis, has helped put the brakes on the closing of Café Cléo over the past two years. The least you could do is support his festival, during which adults dress like latexed manga kids with the crotch cut out of their pants. GAWD. Click here for more info (NSFW).

"Tuesday, Aug 30 to Monday, Sept 5, the Montreal Fetish Weekend returns with seven nights of kinky delights. Join hundreds of visitors, artists and designers, who attend from all over the world, for a non-stop fetish fantasy holiday, where Montreal’s legendary hospitality allows you to have the time of your life."
