Popping culture: Nick Offerman offers 'honey for the money'

Nick Offerman, best known as the meat-loving and bacon-obsessed Ron Swanson from Parks And Recreation, has teamed up with New York Collaborates for Autism in a genius fashion. Swanson is offering his time and his body, for money. That's right: if you want to see Offerman strip down to his birthday suit, from "nips to nuggets," you can make a donation to NYCA, and not only can you contribute to what many would argue is a great organization, but you could also help the internet become the place it was meant to be: a sea of naked images of Nick Offerman.

That way, when you look up images of Offerman online, you can find more than just this:

But you could see what that eagle is hiding. All in favour, say "Aye!"

Aye!

And as it's Friday, that means it's time for your weekly Office Dance Party. I've been digging around lately looking for records that were made for voguing, walking and whacking. Junior Vasquez, he of the "If Madonna Calls, I"m Not Here" fame, created a fiercely tribal homage to the House of Xtravaganza with his record "X."

Now you can strike a pose and duck walk in your office as you wait for the weekend to start.

On June 23, the Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project's AGM took place and a new board of directors was put into place.

The list includes:

* Kevin Kindred (chair)
* Rosie Porter (vice-chair)
* Matt Numer (past chair)
* Kate Shewan (treasurer)
* Nathaniel Lewis (secretary)
* John Britton (member-at-large)
* Jim Gouthro
* Andrew Jantzen
* Kate Keough
* Justin Leblanc
* Brenda Merritt
* Alana Murray
* Rebecca Rose
* Nathaniel Smith
* Lucas Thorne-Humphrey

NSRAP also held a community forum during the AGM and published topics of discussion at the meeting, as well as their annual report.

Speaking of NSRAP, they're still accepting applications for the Community Hero Awards, a topic discussed in Down East a few weeks ago.

It is the weekend, however, so in keeping with the weekly Office Dance Party tradition, here's a little Balearic bumper to get you ready for beach and lake times.

The Reading List for Friday, June 8

To start the weekend right, here's a small reading list for your perusal, ending with our weekly office dance party video.

For those of you who remember her from America's Next Top Model, it looks like Isis King is now appearing in an ad campaign for American Apparel.

An American survey finds that queer teens are less happy than their heterosexual counterparts. D-uh.

An interesting essay on Gawker about Grindr: the gay social networking (read: cruising) app as an exercise in personal (not gay) pride. Interesting arguments aside, I wish they had mentioned something about Douchebags of Grindr.

And since this is the weekend, it's time to have a little dance party in your office. Extra points to whoever can name the vocal sample in this record.

What's going on in Halifax this weekend

It's that time again. The weekend.

If you're looking for something to do, there are multiple options.

On Friday night, Menz Bar is holding a Fetish Night in the Music Room, with the cover going to support Manna for Health, the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia Emergency Fund, The Lodge That Gives, and the YouthProject.

Also at Menz Bar, the East Coast Rainbow Softball Association will be holding registration for their summer league this Friday. Check out their website for more info.

This Sunday, Jenn Grant will be hosting a show at The Company House in support of the family of Raymond Taavel. Grant was quoted as saying, "We are a special town who do things for one another in a time of need. All we can do is all we can do." Tickets can be found online.

And since it is Friday, that means Office Dance Party time here at Down East. I recently got stuck in a mid-'90s phase on my iTunes and created a small playlist of songs. The capper, the one that makes me go off, is this one. Created by Josh Wink, under the moniker of Size 9, is this crazy tidbit called "I'm Ready." It brings you up, tears you down, brings you up, then makes you explode. This record is not for the faint of heart or for those of you who can't handle extended drum rolls. Perfect way to finish your Friday.
